In the fall of 2011, the City of Prince George introduced the Insights Discovery System to employees. Insights Discovery Accredited Client Practitioners Mavis Bethune and Rae-Ann Emery draw on their very different colour energies and use a story telling style that really resonates and connects with fellow employees.
They keep sessions very interactive with lots of action and laughter. Mavis tells us of one participant, who leads with lots of Fiery Red and Sunshine Yellow energy, that needed some convincing to attend and had trouble keeping his cell phone turned off. But his comment after the workshop was, “This was the best 2-hour workshop I’ve ever taken”, even though the session was 3 and ½ hours long!
Some of their workshops can get pretty loud, especially when people are fighting over the bike horns. (see photo) One of the concepts these two facilitators continually emphasize in their sessions is that the Discovery preferences should never be used to stereotype people, and they invite participants to act as the “respect police” during the workshop. Whenever participants hear someone using labeling language, they are encouraged to pick up one of several bicycle horns in the room and blast it!
Mavis and Rae-Ann are scrambling to meet the demand from staff, so this spring a third individual will be accredited in the Insights Discovery System at the May IDA in Vancouver. Both Mavis and Rae-Ann admit they love the Insights buzz that’s happening in the workplace, and Mavis sums it up by saying “This is quickly becoming one of our most powerful employee-engagement tools. Thanks Insights!”
