In 2006 a team of senior health care leaders with accountability for health care education across the Province of BC drew on the Insights Discovery model as part of their strategy for getting the best from their team. It became a common language for understanding and valuing one another during some complex organizational challenges – and served them well in becoming recognized as extremely competent individuals and an effective team.
Recent changes in the team membership highlighted the need for refreshing their learning as a prerequisite to moving to an even higher level of effectiveness. Newcomers required grounding in the common language and existing team members sought a better understanding of the new team dynamic. Earlier this year, personal interviews were conducted with six group members to determine the key concerns and requirements of the group. As medical practitioners the team members understood the significance of beginning with a diagnosis. Insights Discovery Profiles were generated for all team members, old and new, and a Team WheelTM was created.
In early 2011 a customized working session using the Discovering Team Effectiveness model was facilitated by senior Insights Vancouver consultants to explore individual functioning and analyze team functioning. Participants recognized the power of different leadership approaches and the significance of bringing a balanced perspective into their functioning. The team also explored how their culture has created a preferred and over arching style of communication.
Said one of the Regional Associate Deans, “I have done the workshop twice with 6 years in between…the Insights methods are very sophisticated. Our participation resulted in increased self awareness, better communication, a sense of shared purpose and enhanced team effectiveness.”
