The Insights for Emerging Leaders program is complementary to the Insights Transformational Leadership (ITL) program. Together these 2 programs provide an extensive and evolving leadership development pathway. Both programs are based on the Insights Discovery system.  The ITL program includes a separate preference assessment and adds capability assessments. Together these two programs promote a common language and reinforce concepts throughout the leadership development life cycle.

The Insights for Emerging Leaders program is a series of workshops that builds on the suite of Insights Discovery learning solutions. Designed for people considering moving into their first leadership role through to participants currently holding supervisory to mid-manager level positions, these workshops are delivered as an in-house program or through public programs.

Each workshop is designed to build core people management skills.  The overriding focus is the transfer of the knowledge to practical application in the workplace.

The public offering is a series of 6 half day sessions. Each module looks at one aspect of leadership that is relevant to people considering moving into their first leadership role through to participants currently holding supervisory to mid-manager level positions.

2010 Insights for Emerging Leaders Series – Session Details

March 25th:  Authenticity and Assertiveness

In the Authenticity and Assertiveness module participants are encouraged to be more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and to practice engaging in direct, honest communications with others. Assertiveness is accepting your rights as appropriate, and being willing to engage with others. Demonstrating authenticity helps to build critical relationships, and enables leaders to develop the self confidence and assertiveness that is required for success in leadership roles.

April 29th:  Giving and Receiving Feedback

The Giving and Receiving Feedback module examines the approach leaders take to enhance staff performance. This session will focus on how leaders facilitate staff development through their skills in delivering feedback and using a coach approach. The Insights ‘D4’ data based feedback model is designed to maximize the chance that both acknowledging and developmental feedback is ‘let in’. Until this happens, and we are really heard by the other person, there is no possibility of reflection or changed behaviour. Exploring and practicing this model also helps participants to learn how to ask for feedback for their own leadership development.

May 27th:  Managing Time / Managing Life
The Managing Time / Managing Life module encourages leaders to take a disciplined approach to managing their time and maintaining a healthy work/life balance for themselves and their teams. The Insights approach combines the power of well-grounded, traditional best practices with the self-knowledge gained through an understanding of individual preferences. This session explores practical strategies and models for optimal success in finding the right balance.

June 24th:  Understanding Team Culture

The Understanding Team Culture module explores team diversity, and how to assess the current culture being expressed by a team. This session focuses on how you naturally contribute to teams through your preferences and gifts. Understanding how to identify and work with your team’s culture will allow you to be more open to sharing and using your strengths. Participants will develop awareness of a team’s unique dynamics and learn how to positively influence team success.

September 23rd:  Effective Communication

The Effective Communication module builds leaders’ capabilities in connecting with people of diverse communication needs. Leaders’ success will depend largely on the effectiveness of their communications. Participants will identify strategies, practice key skills, and learn practical models for enhancing the quality of their day to day conversations.

October 28th:  Insightful Goals

The Insightful Goals module explores the requirement for leaders to be outcome focused. Being able to clarify goals, move people to action, and build a shared sense of achievement, are critical leadership capabilities. Participants discover how to identify and establish goals that are meaningful, while learning how to create detailed plans that move those goals from ideas to accomplishments.

The Insights Transformational Leadership (ITL) Launch Pad provides a full-day learning experience designed to connect leaders with their personal purpose and contributions as a leader. It offers an easy to understand and apply methodology with practical, experiential exercises and tools that will enhance leadership capabilities.

Why do you need to clear your calendar to attend this development day?  If you and your organization are interested in expanding your leadership capabilities, an intellectual challenge, and personal fulfillment, this is the right opportunity and the right time.

The planned personal outcomes for the interactive workshop include:

  • Increased knowledge and awareness of your personal leadership strengths assessed against a leading edge model of best practices,

  • Deeper understanding of the impact your personal leadership style is having on self, team and the organization,

  • Learned  awareness of emotional competence and any shifts required in leading self, leading teams, and leading your organization,

  • Identified strategies for removing barriers to results,

  • Realization of both “strengths and challenges in action” that will serve as a key ingredient in your plan for further exploration and development,

  • Ability to positively influence individuals, teams and organizational systems using an advanced application of proven leadership concepts.

Your organization will benefit from leaders who are increasingly self-aware, knowing how to best work with their strengths and their areas of development. Leaders will leave equipped with the most current research, tools, and best practices in leadership for helping organizations excel.

The planned outcomes for your organization include:

  • An introduction to a model for Transformational Leadership that can support individuals, teams and the organization navigate through workplace challenges, such as change, performance, and culture,

  • Enhanced succession planning by building organizational bench strength,

  • Increased organizational agility using an approach that ignites innovation and collaboration,

  • Strengthened relationships -  between employees, suppliers and customers,

  • Retention of high performers with an inspiring opportunity for continuous learning.

This one-day course is a prerequisite for the intensive 8 & ½ day ITL Program.  It is intended to introduce participants to the ITL model while providing practical and experiential exercises and tools to greatly enhance leadership capabilities. Designed for middle to senior level managers, this program is also suitable for those who influence or engage others to facilitate and enhance performance results.

The ITL LaunchPad is delivered as an in-house program or through public programs.  The 2010 public program is May 13th.

The Insights Transformational Leadership (ITL) Program is intended for managers and leaders who want to experience a robust, in-depth, leadership program that will give immediate application and prepare them and their organizations for long-term success.

This intensive program covers eight dimensions of leadership and is offered over a 12-month period.  Each workshop and the action learning assignments reinforce the truly transformational approach to learning acquisition and transfer. Learners will engage with our two unique and complementary learning systems: Insights Discovery, which explores preferences; and Insights Navigator, which explores capabilities

Based on our groundbreaking work with many organizations in both public and private sectors, the ITL model is positioned to help leaders make improvements in areas of challenge or stretch. However, the primary focus is on areas of strength, and how to leverage that capacity further. To achieve this goal, action-based learning, self-study, and collaborative group work are integral components to the success of the participants, and the program.

LEADERSHIP COACHING

The Insights coaching model recognizes and celebrates the fact that each person in an organization is unique, with different styles, needs and expectations. In these differences are great strengths, but how do we recognize and uncover these strengths to identify and remove the barriers that block us from reaching our potential?

How is this achieved?

Our coaches utilize the Insights Profiles participants receive during their programs.   By building on the learning achieved in the workshop setting, the coach can take the participant to a deeper level that anchors the learning and moves the participant to positive, measurable action.

What is the outcome?

While client outcomes are uniquely defined and determine the coaching objectives, our clients consistently report being aligned purposefully with core values and vision leading to right practical action.

The benefits of coaching include: improving leadership development / succession planning and improving retention rates. These two benefits are significantly correlated to improvements in market performance as measured by self reports in the areas of revenue growth, market share, profitability and customer satisfaction. (AMA: Coaching, A Global Study of Successful Practices, 2008).
